Next Generation Arts is thrilled to announce a call for submissions for Breaking Ground—the inaugural exhibition launching the newly expanded Next Generation Arts Hub in Scarborough.
Breaking Ground is more than an exhibition; it’s a celebration of renewal and transformation, fresh perspectives, and the limitless potential of creativity. This moment marks a new beginning—for our space, for the Scarborough community, and for the artists whose work will define this pivotal chapter.
As the new Next Generation Arts Hub grows into a hub of innovation and creativity, we invite artists across Ontario, of all backgrounds and experience levels, to submit work that speaks to the theme of Breaking Ground:
Embrace change and renewal
Reflect on personal or collective transformation
Imagine new beginnings, paths, and possibilities
Break barriers, challenge conventions, and push boundaries
This exhibition is your opportunity to share your voice, vision, and story as we open the doors to a reimagined creative space—one built to inspire connection, innovation, and bold artistic expression.
All mediums, styles, and interpretations are welcome.
Eligibility and Submission
Open to artists aged 13 years and above.
Artworks in all media are accepted (painting, drawing, photography, textiles, sculpture, installation, etc.).
Each artist may submit up to three (3) separate pieces for exhibition.
Maximum artwork size: 48” x 48”.
All submissions must be original works created by the entrant. Copies or reproductions of other artists' work will not be accepted.
All submitted artworks must be complete, display-ready and hang-ready, and suitable for a general audience. Works in progress will not be exhibited.

Cost:
$20 for artworks priced under $500
$40 for artworks priced over $500
Important Dates:
Submission Deadline: June 29, 2025 at 11:59pm ET
Notice of Acceptance: Week of July 7, 2025
Artwork Drop-Off: July 19, 2025 (1pm-5pm) or July 21 to 25, 2025 (10am-5pm)
Grand Opening Celebration: August 9, 2025
Exhibition Run: July 28 to August 23, 2025
Artwork Pick-Up: August 26–28, 2025 (10am-5pm)
Special Recognition
As part of the exhibition, we are pleased to announce two special recognitions:
The Juror’s Choice Award Winner will receive $200 in cash, plus a Next Generation Arts Gift Package (valued at $100)
The Audience Choice Award Winner will receive $100 in cash, plus a Next Generation Arts Gift Package (valued at $100)
Selections will be made by a guest juror, and exhibition attendees will be invited to cast their votes for the Audience Choice during the opening reception.

To Submit:
Complete the submission form on Google Forms and upload images of your artwork. Deadline for submissions is Sunday, July 15, 2025 at 11:59pm ET.
Pay the submission fee through PayPal. Credit and debit card payments are accepted. You do not need to create a PayPal account.
