The seasoned participants of the program Expressions Across Ages (EAA) gathered weekly at the Milliken Mills Library and Markham Village Library for a series of workshops exploring arts, culture, identity, and community. Within this program, seniors actively engaged in learning pottery or embroidery for a duration of 8 weeks.
The EAA Stories in the Making exhibition stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of older adults from Markham and Toronto, showcasing the pottery pieces and embroidered tapestries cultivated during the program so far. Senior participants created an array of bowls and cups, thoughtfully incorporating themes of friendship, while also designing intricate embroidery that reflected their personal narratives and individual interpretations of "home."
While delving into the heartfelt themes of friendship and the meaning of home, the senior participants not only expressed their personal journeys through art, but also cultivated meaningful bonds with one another. Through shared experiences, creative collaboration, and deep reflection, they nurtured a profound sense of community and belonging—connections that endured and continued to flourish even after the workshops had concluded.

About Expressions Across Ages (EAA)
EAA is a collaborative initiative hosted by the Senior Services Network (SSN) in partnership with Next Generation Arts (NGA) and funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation Seed Grant. The program aims to promote the arts as a means of enhancing the cognitive health of seniors while addressing social isolation in a supportive peer environment. Beyond individual artistic exploration, senior participants of EAA actively participated in intergenerational learning opportunities, fostering connections with BIPOC artists from NGA who facilitated the workshops. We extend an invitation to explore this vibrant collection of works meticulously crafted by the talented participants of EAA.
