The HEAL exhibition at the Markham Public Library features original visual artworks by youth participants of the HEAL program in York Region. The works explore the participants’ myriad emotions, thoughts, and feelings and document the journey of youth towards mental wellness and resilience.
HEAL (Health Empowerment & Arts Leverage) is a specialised arts-based program developed and presented by Next Generation Arts. HEAL provides a safe, supportive space to try new art-making techniques, discover tools to unpack emotional trauma, and promote healing and mental wellness through creativity. Through weekly workshops in visual art and spoken word, South Markham youth ages 13 to 29 receive ongoing support from trauma-informed arts facilitators and are guided through creative exercises to unpack experiences and mental health challenges and create original paintings, poems, and musical pieces.
The HEAL program in York Region is currently running every Tuesdays, 4pm–6pm through November 2024. For more information and to register, visit the HEAL page. Drop-ins to the program are also welcome.
