VIEWS: L’AMOUR GRANDe

Youth participants infuse colour into the basement walls of the L’Amoreaux Community Centre to create a more inviting and inspiring environment for youth.

Between September and December 2023, Next Generation Arts collaborated with emerging artists aged 15-29 to reimagine the youth space in the L'Amoreaux Community Centre in north Scarborough. The program aimed to encourage young people back into the community centre and make them feel more comfortable and secure in their neighbourhood spaces. As part of the L'Amour Grande iteration of VIEWS, youth participated in 14 weekly intensive workshops led by a community artist and professional muralists, developing their skills in community consultation, research, storytelling, mural design, and painting techniques.

A mural unveiling and community celebration event was held in L’Amoreaux Community Centre on Saturday, December 16, 2023 to celebrate the achievements of the youth and showcase the new mural to the broader community.
